The Battista hypercar is the quintessential modern-day hypercar but here its maker has paid tribute to a fifties classic which was loved by Battista ‘Pinin’ Farina with a new special edition. Called Cinquantacinque, the name is derived from the Italian word for 55 and is inspired by the 1955 Lancia Florida. Known as a bona-fide design classic, the Lancia Florida was the daily driver of Carrozzeria Pininfarina’s founder throughout his career while its streamlined design was ahead of its time. The 50s sedan has rear-opening doors and no B pillar, which means Lounge Doors. They also hinge upwards with the pillarless opening and rear-hinged back doors.
Much like the original classic, the Battista Cinquantacinque hyper GT is also finished in a Blu Savoia Gloss paint, contrasted by the Bianco Sestriere Gloss roof and Brushed Anodised jewelry pack. Inside, it is upholstered in a bespoke Mahagoni (Poltrona Frau Heritage Leather) while the livery and name Cinquantacinque, translating to ‘55’. The Cinquantacinque model features several inscriptions with the passenger door plate as well as the underside of the active rear wing both feature the ‘Cinquantacinque 55’ signature.
In terms of pure numbers, the Battista Cinquantacinque continues with a 120-kWh lithium-ion battery, delivering 1,900hp and 2,340Nm of torque with a superfast 0-100 kph time of just 1.86 seconds and doing 0-200 kph in just 4.75 seconds.
Dave Amantea, Chief Design Officer at Automobili Pininfarina, said: “This was a truly special and unique opportunity to design a car that plays homage to Pininfarina SpA’s heritage. The color combination of the Battista Cinquantacinque is incredible and shows the vision Battista Farina had when he designed the Lancia Florida back in the early fifties. Not only that, but that very same model helped guide me when creating the PURA Vision design concept, a truly unique vehicle that sets the template for future models from Automobili Pininfarina.”
Being inspired by classic cars is nothing new in the supercar world while here, the gorgeous blue detailing does stand out in giving the new Pininfarina hypercar a distinctive look while making it stand out further. This also marks the entry of Battista to the Japanese markets with the Sky group as its retail partner.
